Chef Amorelle Dempster will use some of Matthew Dennis’ potato crop to make the dish from 3pm at Maitland produce market on Thursday and leave taste buds wanting more.
The added spices are the perfect touch to warm the senses as the city delves into the first day of winter.
“It’s a spicy curry with lots of lovely warming spices,” Ms Dempster said. “It’s a traditional dish and we'll serve it with coconut rice and greens.”
The dish will cost $10 to eat in and $15 to takeaway. The cost helps Slow Food Hunter Valley buy extra marquees and lighting to improve the market and allow it to expand.
The produce market will be held between 2pm and 6pm in The Levee instead of 3pm to 7pm to complement the change of season.
Citrus is set to be the other star of this market. Oranges, lemons and mandarins are now ripe and will be out in force.
There will be a wide range of seasonal vegetables including cauliflower, cabbage, sweet potato, spinach, kale and pumpkin to make those winter dishes. Shoppers will also be able to buy meat, bread, eggs, honey and flowers.
